On Friday, April 22, the Council of Ministers approved the bill on staff retention in the event of a crisis to be submitted to the House of Representatives. Companies that have at least 20% less work for two months can make use of various instruments from the bill. This is allowed for a maximum period of six months. Employers have the option of temporarily changing the work of the staff by having employees perform other suitable work. This allows employees to continue working as much as possible. Employers must then continue to pay their staff in full.<\/p>\n
Companies also have the option to pay their employees 10% less wages for the hours that cannot be worked due to the crisis. If an employer chooses to do so, he can then apply for wage subsidy from the UWV. The company then receives a subsidy for 65% of the wage costs for the hours not worked. The remaining wage costs (25%) are paid by the employer. In this way, the government, employer and employee contribute to getting through the crisis. The bill replaces the current Reduction of Working Hours Scheme. The lessons learned from the corona pandemic have been included in its elaboration.
